About Us

The Natural Resources News Service is a project of the Public Education Center, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization staffed by professional journalists and designed to foster accurate, substantive reporting in our program areas. Since 1993, NRNS has been responsible for scores of major environmental stories on ABC, CBS, and NBC news; on such shows as 60 Minutes and 20/20; in the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, and the Washington Post; and on international outlets such as BBC and NHK.

Our mission is to assist reporters, editors, and producers in their pursuit of substantive news on environmental issues. The purpose of this website is to help support that work by posting story ideas, documents, and suggestions for coverage. While any story marked “NRNS” may be picked up without charge, we do ask that you credit the byline and NRNS. All we ask in exchange is that you provide our funders with an accurate summary of our assistance, if asked.

To contact one of our reporters or to pitch a story, call us at 202-466-4310 or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . Please read our submissions guidelines before submitting an idea. We try to respond to all inquiries in a timely fashion.

If you like our work and would like to collaborate with us or contribute to PEC, the Natural Resources News Service, or its sister project, the National Security News Service, don’t hesitate to call or email me. Our goal is to encourage you to do the best work possible and to help you if we can.
